
Matthew Commons is a senior finance executive and serial entrepreneur, with more than 25 years of experience across both public and private equity-backed companies. He serves in CFO, CEO and executive advisor capacities, with a particular focus on high-growth and technology ventures. Matthew has a “Strategic CFO” mindset, with focus areas including capital raising, financial planning, lender relationships, partnerships and M&A. He is comfortable overseeing core accounting, finance and treasury work from the startup phase all the way to $100+ million revenue and multinational operations.
Matthew’s experience includes:
- Algorand Inc – CFO. Executed a restructuring of the company’s software engineering business ($100+ million annual revenue); reduced operational expenses by 45%, ringfenced liabilities and spun out a $350 million AUM investment subsidiary. Transformed the market focus of a world-renowned cryptography team to target new opportunities in AI training verification.
- Cambridge Blockchain – CEO. Founded, led and exited a digital identity enterprise software company with US and European operations. Positioned the company for investment by PayPal, Inc in 2019 and its sale to Blockchains Inc in 2020.
- FloDesign Wind Turbine / Ogin Energy – CFO. Led company from drafting first business plan to closing Series A, Series B, and Series C financing rounds, raising over $150 million from investors including KPCB, Goldman Sachs, and BASF. Managed team of 15 people in 5 global locations with responsibility for reporting, budgeting, legal, intellectual property, IT and treasury functions as company entered new manufacturing and deployment stages.
Matthew is a CFA and has a BA in International Studies and German Studies from University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
